ABSTRACT

Planning is the systematic development of activities aimed at reaching agreed objectives, by a process of analysing and selecting from among the various strategies or opportunities that have been identified as being available. Planning is also related to control. The overall purpose of control and evaluation processes is to improve the operation of the system as a whole by providing decision-makers and executive officers with better information. Control and evaluation of the system are important aspects of the planning process as a whole. Once the strategic planning process has been completed, and policy choices made, operational plans can be prepared. A very important element in the planning of the teaching process is the calendar of events for each course offered by the institution. The implementation of a plan is not the end of the planning process. Planning is effective only in so far as the assumptions upon which it is based are valid.
