Building the Scene

Storyboarding and Course Design for Interactive and Engaging Learning
ByJohn Vivolo

This chapter describes the industry standards for developing, teaching, and revising an online learning class. With rapid prototyping and its multiple cycles of revision, the learner becomes part of the development process and provides insight into their learning experience, including nuances the developer may have missed during the initial phases. Decision-making phase should involve a number of stakeholders, including the developing instructor, administrators, and any other content or administrative staff. In storyboarding phase, the developer begins creating a blueprint or storyboard for the online course. They put together ideas based on in-class experiences of teaching this course and consider how best to transition the traditional learning into a virtual environment. Development phase is known as the record and build phase. This phase has two parts, which can be worked on at the same time or separately.
