ABSTRACT

Instructional design was considered an approach to designing learning experiences and user experience (UX) for designing customer experiences. The field of UX design has evolved significantly in direct correlation to the evolution of web and mobile technologies. Design thinking was developed by Stanford’s d.school to explore new approaches to solving complex problems. The design thinking process follows these steps: Empathize; Define; Ideate; Prototype; and Test. The combination of UX or design thinking into the course design process is frequently referred to as learning experience design. The purpose of incorporating UX into the design process is to put the learner at the center of the design and to meet their exact needs. Incorporating UX into the learning design process impacts everything from the layout and navigation of the course to the pathways the learner takes.
