By listening carefuily to a child's speech a teacher may be alerted to a weakness in language processing which, if ignored, can give rise to considerable difficulties in later years. Many children with such difficulties are able to communicate weil with single words, incomplete sentences, the aid of facial expressions and gestures. However, they may be unable to express themselves without these props and will need plenty of practice with simple sentences before using complex sentences.
