ABSTRACT

A child can be taught to achieve goals in a functional way by practicing a specific skills set. This is a set of skills that the team believes can be utilized as an alternative to utilizing dysfunctional behavior. Defining a skill set to work on as opposed to specific behaviors is an approach that encourages a focus on growth. This chapter delves into the process of defining that skill set, including various guidelines. This stage is the final prerequisite to preparing a Success Diary. In order for this intervention to be effective it is best if the parents believe that the child is capable of change.
