ABSTRACT

A Success Diary is prepared in a step-by-step fashion with the first step being selecting a notebook with the child. The key factor is that the child owns the diary. It is not merely a tool for adults to monitor “good” and “bad” behavior. It is a tool of personal development. The second step is preparing behavioral tables in The Success Diary. These are as simplistic as many current behavior modification charts. In fact, there are minimal monitoring sessions incorporated into the tables in order to ensure that the intervention is not overbearing. The final step is focused on letting the child personalize his/her Success Diary. This is as part of a continuing effort to encourage ownership of the therapeutic process. As keeping the team on a positive track can be strenuous, this chapter introduces a tool to assist teachers in dealing with stress, The Mindfulness Bottle.
