ABSTRACT

The attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler in what has become known as the Bomb Plot in July 1944 is an oft-told tale. All the Generals and other high-ranking officers that planned the coup were guilty of treason, but the role of one particular officer, General Fromm is of special interest for present purposes. Colonel Stauffenberg had distinguished himself in action, and because of his severe wounds he had been reassigned to staff duties with the Reserve Army in Berlin under the command of General Fromm. Stauffenberg came to the conference in his capacity as Chief of Staff of the Reserve Army, and was due to report on replacement divisions which could be put into action. Stauffenberg was to be both an asset and the source of ultimate disaster.
