ABSTRACT

The approach to the project management is that of involving a mutual fitting principle. Each beneficiary and stakeholder is fully involved in decision making, development, execution, and management, as guided by STOAS Agriprojects Foundation. STOAS Agriprojects Foundation believes that knowledge and skills alone are not enough to strengthen horticulture projects in Africa. The project management structure is supporting an established and a well defined ‘local management structure’ to assure mutual fitting and sustainability. The project has several major components: Horticultural Technical Services and Networking; Training; Input suppliers; Pilot Gardens and Input Centres; and Establishing a local management team to take over the project. Sustainability is the single most important factor if the project is to survive on a long term basis. Commitment, responsibility, action, tangible outcome, and a sense of local ownership are essential to the sustainable development of the project. Eventually the project has to be able to continue the activities on its own without the support of NIGP/STOAS.
