ABSTRACT

The primary intention of this study was to identify the values that influence the practice of expatriate nurses working in developing countries in primary health care.

It is possible to identify from the experience of the nurses a common model of practice. This model of practice is influenced by a number of different value systems including political, personal and professional values. No value is sufficient in itself to totally dictate the model of practice which is adopted. There is an interaction between the values which influences their practice and the consequent effect on the clients, patients and communities with whom they work.
