ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, Introduction, the authors introduce a set of information, which foregrounds this study to enable readers to understand the overall view of the study presented in this book. The authors outline some of the issues that have emerged in second language teacher education and professional development in recent years and provide an overview of the research as it relates to these issues. Many of these issues are taken up and elaborated in subsequent chapters in this book. This chapter also provides background information on the study based on the Native Speaker Programme; research questions and the significance of this study are also articulated.
