ABSTRACT

Finally, in Chapter 9, Revisiting the Novice ESL Teachers’ Mentoring Programme, we address the criticisms on the mentoring programme in Malaysia, with a specific reference to the Native Speaker Programme. We also revisit the notion of mentoring novice teachers and highlight the need to rethink the novice ESL teachers’ professional development especially in the Malaysian context. We proposed several initiatives that can be taken into consideration by the relevant stakeholders. This could be valuable for researchers who are interested to explore this niche as well as for practitioners to improve the current practice in second language teacher education and development.
