ABSTRACT

Mindfulness is focusing on what is happening inside and around readers at a precise moment. Mindfulness can be an opportunity to help children to slow down, and begin to tune in to their body. The more they can practise this, the more the children can develop the ability to do this themselves, and learn to use these techniques when they experience overwhelming feelings. Mindfulness can help children to learn that all feelings will come and go — and all will pass eventually. There are many ways to help support children to use mindfulness throughout their day. Mindful colouring can help relieve stress and promote relaxation. It can help people enter an almost meditative state through the repetitive action of the colouring. It can help children to focus on the task at hand, introducing mindfulness, and help calm negative thoughts and emotions.
