ABSTRACT

This chapter is the first of two concluding chapters suggesting detailed lessons for the implementation of and sustenance of solar and hybrid mini-grids. The lessons focus on factors influencing operational sustainability, economic sustainability, affordability, and various qualities of the electricity supply. The chapter also offers lessons on the challenges of achieving new income generation in poor, remote areas by the help of electricity. The lessons are likely to have relevance in wide geographical areas, both Sub-Saharan Africa and other world regions with large un-electrified populations.
