ABSTRACT

Minimally invasive options with lower perioperative complications for various urologic cancers are very attractive for patients as well as surgeons. These include cryotherapy, radiofrequency, laser and high-intensity focused ultrasound for the management of prostate and renal cancers. Particularly for prostate cancer, cryotherapy is being utilized not only in primary treatment but also in the salvage setting. Technological improvements in localizing prostate cancer have enabled the use of focal cryotherapy at major centers with minimal morbidity. This chapter reviews the current role of cryotherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer.
