ABSTRACT

Due to the implementation of international standards for the protection of persons with disabilities through the incorporation of the laws and policies of the European Union into the national legal system, there has been significant evolution in the approach to persons with disabilities in Slovakia. Despite this fact, there are still insufficient data available to illustrate the impacts of disability on the exercise of certain fundamental rights and freedoms by these people. The purpose of the chapter is to identify facilitators and barriers for exercising certain civil and political rights – in particular the right to vote – by persons with disabilities.
