ABSTRACT

The rampant cases of sexual violence against children suggest that the handling efforts taken by the government, community, educational institutions and families have not been fully effective. This ineffectiveness is due to the focus of the carried-out programs which still count heavily on children as target objects, yet the social environment around the children—including family—does not ensure the establishment of an alert and safe environment for them. Therefore, to resolve this issue, the study that may delve the root of the problem is required. One of the views that are capable to provide the different perspective is feminism. By using the study case method through the in-depth interview with three counselors who deal with the cases of sexual violence against children located in Bandung, this study will analyze the issue of sexual violence against children from the point of view of post-structural feminism. The result suggests that there is the contribution of patriarchal culture into the conformation of toxic masculinity by which children are being subjected to sexual violence. Thus, by means of this study it is expected that the new alternatives in developing the most effective methods to prevent the sexual violence against children, especially in Indonesia, shall be found.
