ABSTRACT

A 8-year-old male presents to the emergency room because of ingestion of a foreign body. He was with his 12-year-old cousin when the ingestion occurred. They were playing truth or dare in the living room and the 8 year old was dared to swallow an object. There was a small DVD remote cover nearby them and the patient swallowed it. Both the patient and the cousin state that no batteries were swallowed. The patient is currently complaining of sore throat, chest pain, and dysphagia. He is able to swallow his oral secretions and is not drooling. His voice is normal to his parents. There is no vomiting, abdominal pain, gagging, or choking. The event happened about 2 hours ago, as the children didn't tell their parents until about an hour ago. The patient is refusing any food or liquids. He is otherwise healthy without medical issues.
