ABSTRACT

Fast proliferation of multimedia capturing devices and related editing software tools have made its recording and tampering easier than ever before. Videos and images submitted in the court of law are acceptable as evidence provided its integrity and authenticity are validated scientifically. Anti-forensic or counter forensic techniques are those which are designed to mislead forensic analysis by erasing or falsifying fingerprints left by editing operations. Anti-forensic tools and techniques are also used as privacy protection measures. A perpetrator must balance the trade-off between complete removal of forgery traces and introduction of new evidence from anti-forensic manipulations. The chapter presents a survey on anti-forensic techniques that can be applied either on passive image or on passive video tampering detection methods. It discusses the methods used for countering anti-forensics. The literature in image and video tampering detection have limitations which will give rise to anti-forensic techniques that can be applied against them. Anti-forensic methods are also advancing with advances in digital forensics.
