ABSTRACT

This snapshot vignette discusses how through frontloading a course with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) techniques, faculty can avoid common mid-course issues, as described through an anecdote in which university personnel scrambled to meet one particular student’s needs. As online course development continues to expand to a broader audience, it is imperative that faculty not only understand the importance of accessibility but also incorporate it proactively when building courses, rather than as a response to student needs. Additionally, incorporating these techniques can enable all learners to receive maximum benefit from the instructional materials provided within online courses.
