ABSTRACT

The intuitive process was described by Theodore Reikin Listening with the Third Ear: The Inner Experience of a Psychoanalyst. The depth of Reik’s comprehension of connection with all of its subtleties provides a roadmap for intuitive listening. Reik’s metaphor for listening references one of the pillars of intuition, clairaudience—hearing, as an entry point for learning how “one mind speaks to another beyond words and in silence”. The clinicians clearly share the desire: though they lacked the theoretical background to describe the intuitive process, they clearly rely on intuition to make decisions, to build trust with their clients, and to bring an aliveness to sessions that reflects the basic nature of the treatment process. This suggests that intuition is a deeply personal process, a foundational part of the human experience: a vital part of the acts of relationship, discernment, connection, and survival.
