ABSTRACT

Mickey Jones, from the New York band The First Edition, was therefore hired to deputise for Levon Helm as drummer for the subsequent 1966 world tour. The British and Irish leg of the European part of Bob Dylan’s 1966 world tour began in Dublin on May 5. The Beatles were particularly keen to play Dylan and The Hawks an early copy of their latest studio album, Revolver, recorded between April and June 1966 and to be released later that year, in August. With regard to the impact of Dylan’s encounter with The Beatles at the May Fair Hotel that May in 1966, his producer Bob Johnston, who had flown into London to assist in the recording of the concerts, in retrospect considered it to have been profound. That appreciative part of Dylan’s British audiences in 1966 most conspicuously included The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and others directly responsible for the revitalisation of rock music in Britain.
