ABSTRACT

The law concerning legal deposit in Fiji is the Libraries Act 1972. The depositories named in the Act are the National Archives of Fiji and the Library of the University of the South Pacific, both in Suva, Fiji. The Act stipulates that the printer is the party responsible for depositing publications; but if a book is published in Fiji, but printed elsewhere, the publisher becomes responsible for depositing the two copies. A publisher who supply a printer with all the required maps, illustrations, and plates finished and coloured which will form part of the book which is to be deposited, within one month of publication, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding 200 dollars. The Library of the University of the South Pacific in Suva is also a statutory deposit library for the Solomon Islands and receives one copy of every item published in the Solomon Islands.
