ABSTRACT

The Nigerian legal deposit law in force is the National Library Decree 1970; Decree No. 29. This law states that the National Library of Nigeria in Lagos is the main but the sole depository for publications. The other depository is the Ibadan University Library in Ibadan. The Publications Law 1955 and the Publications Law 1958 apply to the states of Imo, Anambara, Rivers and Cross River. The Publications Law, 1956 applies to the states of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, and Bendel. The statutory depository is the University of Ibadan Library. The Publications Edict 1968 applies to the states of Oyo, Ogun, and Ondo. The statutory depository under this law is the library of the University of Ife. The Publications Law 1964 applies to the following states: Sokoto, Niger, Kaduna, Kano, Borno, Bauchi, Gongola, Kwara, Benue, and Plateau. It provides for Ahmadu Belio University Library to receive two copies of all publications from the region.
