ABSTRACT

The Virgin Islands are an overseas possession of the USA and the US copyright laws apply. Therefore, all copyrighted books published or printed in the Virgin Islands are deposited in the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. In the Virgin Islands, the legal deposit legislation is for government documents. The stated purpose of the law is to make available to the public and to governmental agencies, government information in the form of specific public documents. The excluded public documents are ‘inter-office and intra-office memoranda’ and records of the courts of the Virgin Islands. This chapter lists a set of statutory depositories. Although the Virgin Islands are a possession of the USA, they are not compelled by law to send any of their publications to the Library of Congress, except those for which copyright is sought.
