ABSTRACT
Whereas there are increasingly more through-composed musical theatre pieces, by far the largest body of musical theatre work falls into what’s known as the book musical. Some musicals have more or less scene work, but most have some, and most directors—after they find out you can make sense of the text in a lyric—will want to know if you can do the same with a scene.
