ABSTRACT

Family and community involvement are two very essential components of a healthy society. America’s experiment with compassion has turned out to be an act of betrayal, where frustration and bewilderment remain a part of society’s dream to eradicate poverty. Public welfare subsidies initially appeared in response to die Great Depression of the 1930s. The system's mission was simply to address needs of the poor. American leadership in the 1930s created the welfare system in a response to a need, but no one ever thought they were creating a system that would leave people in continual despair. The children of parents on welfare are left with few chances of enjoying the economic and political freedom that American democracy offers many citizens. The return on investment from state public funding has had a significant impact upon solving poverty in America. The private sector has made considerable financial contributions to implementing programs to help those in poverty.
