ABSTRACT

Project scope is measured against the project plan. Project scope is related to the project charter by the fact that the project charter specifies what is in the project scope. The budget and schedule of a project are directly impacted by the scope of the project. The primary purpose of project scope definition is to explore deeper details of stakeholder needs, wants, desires, and expectations for the purpose of creating project requirements. Work breakdown structure subdivides major project deliverables or sub-deliverables into smaller, more manageable components. Project deliverables should be defined in a sufficient level of detail to facilitate the development of project activities with cost and duration estimates. The Measure stage of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control lays the groundwork for measurement of the metrics of project performance. Scope determines the extent of budgeting just as budgeting determines the extent of project scope. Safety feasibility is another important aspect that should be considered in project planning.
