ABSTRACT

Oakes Villa Rehabilitation Unit in Huddersfield——aims at helping older people to regain their independence. The chapter provides an exemplar of a methodological-pluralist and pragmatic perspective to evaluation with single-case evaluation playing an important role. The purposes of focus group meetings were basically twofold: to analyse the content of the rehabilitation process from the staff’s perception and to build in effectiveness research methods which the staff could use themselves in the course of their practice. The purpose was to obtain the staff’s perception of the process and value-base of adult rehabilitation——information, understanding and explanation were obtained through a collective group focus on the issues. Oakes Villa’s rehabilitation programme is based on a holistic approach to improve the quality of life for the client. The aim of rehabilitation back into their own homes was achieved with 79 total of 108 of the admissions to Oakes Villa.
