ABSTRACT

Chapter 14 argues that there is no one-size-fits-all type of crisis response. It introduces a taxonomy of reasonable options that organizations have for responding to crises. The chapter introduces the eight broad categories of crisis response tactics, identifies some common themes emerging in crisis response, and provides some guidelines for what does and does not work based on previous research. It also makes the point that there is no definitive set of strategies that organizations should use; however, if organizations are mindful of stakeholder needs and interests, then they can begin to assemble crisis response strategies that help organizations to better manage stakeholder relationships within a crisis context.
