ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at more avoidant presentations through the lens of attachment theory. We look at ‘deactivated’ presentations, children who are more dulled down rather than hyperactivated, presenting as flat and more lifeless. The difference between the left and right hemisphere functioning is introduced, and in particular the work of Iain McGilchrist and Gazzaniga, and we see the role of high levels of logic, linear thinking, certainty and inappropriate confidence and positivity and the absence of capacities to bear and process complex emotions, uncertainty and be aware of embodied emotions.
