ABSTRACT

Organizations are under considerable pressure to adapt to the environments in which they find themselves. The well-known management guru Tom Peters once stated that ‘predictability is a thing of the past’ and this, in a nutshell, is the major challenge that organizations are facing. For many years many organizations in the West have focused on status and the level of the organization in which the individual finds himself. Effective leaders gain feedback about the value that they are adding and adjust their operation accordingly. If consider the role of the leader or manager in the organization, this relates very closely to the appraisal process which is basically a feedback mechanism to help individuals at all levels in the organization add more value. Human beings have a tendency to dwell on the positive aspects of the past. Most writers and commentators seem to agree that the rate of change that experiencing is the most rapid encountered by the human race.
