ABSTRACT

The systemic economic, political and social transformation occurring in Poland has especially influences the functioning of the broadly defines maritime transportation community and a particularly substantial reorganisation has taken place within the maritime shipping sector. The transformation processes in the auxiliary services sector which are proceeding within the free market economy, firms characterises by a variety of organisational, legal and ownership forms are operating; some are state–owned firms, there are numerous limited liability companies; and there are also private ones – including family businesses. An analysis of organisational structures of a number of maritime service companies reveals that there is rarely a focus or even an orientation towards marketing within any of the functions or tasks of the firms concerned. The characteristics of market operations within the Gdynia Maritime Agency and Polfracht presents, bring to the conclusion that they are relatively efficient in the organisation and operations.
