ABSTRACT

Atopic dermatitis is one of many types of skin conditions that fall under the umbrella of eczema, and allergy refers to the body’s disproportionate immune responses to otherwise harmless substances, Atopic dermatitis, eczema, and allergy are conditions that currently do not have a cure. Moreover, the conditions’ treatments have not reached a success rate of full relief from symptoms. As a result, the search for treatment plans and cures has widened to the field of nutraceuticals, foods with medicinal properties. This chapter explores the three conditions and the research linked to testing the effectiveness of certain nutraceuticals – i.e. curcumin, ginger, probiotics and jewelweed – as treatments. Potential nutraceuticals will also be explored through analyzing evidence of medicinal properties found in substances and linking these properties to a condition.
