ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a reflective journey into the heart of Transylvania to use natural and wild materials in a hospice setting with terminally ill adult patients and the staff who care for them. It gives an account of using ‘The Tree of Life’ model for patient groups to enable them to share their feelings and stories through the metaphor of a tree. The individual trees then become united in a forest of personal stories. In addition, I explore my experience of facilitating environmental arts therapy workshops to create time and space for self-care for hospice staff to address feelings of stress and being on the brink of burnout. The workshops aimed to give both patients and staff a medium and a language in which they could express and share an array of feelings.
