ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how creative engagement with our environment – through an environmental arts therapy approach – may support healing of insecure attachment patterns and development of a wider sense of self. It looks at how this can foster feelings of connection with, dependence upon and care for the natural world, enabling individuals to not only cope with the uncertain future that faces us as a species, but to find ways to respond to this uncertainty with courage and creativity. It asks questions about how we are responding to the threats posed to us at this time on our planet and the complex challenges that these threats and threat responses present to us as people and as therapists.
