ABSTRACT

When the final vote for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights finally arrives, there are still several issues of concern for the Commission on the Status of Women. The wording ‘his’ and ‘him’ is used throughout the text, which can be interpreted as excluding women. The Declaration will not be legally binding for Member States, and Article 8 of the UN Charter has still not been acted upon in the United Nations—regarding equal rights for women to be representatives and appointed to high positions in the organization.
