ABSTRACT

Beginning and ending with Yuri’s testimonio to offers a glimpse into the lived experiences of undocumented immigrants, this chapter highlights how these lived experiences are shaped by the sociopolitical contexts within the U.S. context. This chapter provides an overview of the national landscape for undocumented immigrants, including how immigration enforcement as well as the lack of federal directives on comprehensive immigration reform has impacted how undocumented and DACAmented students navigate higher education while grappling with identity and activism. The authors conclude by discussing how the recent rescindment of DACA has had detrimental implications for students and has heightened the anti-immigrant sentiment across the nation.
