ABSTRACT

This paper presents some results of research on cyclical developments in the Polish economy and composite indicators applicable in such an analysis. The research started in 1994 under the project “Synthetic Indicators of Business Activity in Poland”, implemented at the Research Institute of Economic Development (RIED), Warsaw School of Economics. The aim was to develop an operational system of composite indicators, based on quantitative and qualitative data, which might be used for analyzing changes in the aggregate economic activity as well as for monitoring purposes. The project was completed in December 1996 and the full account of results of that collective effort appears as a separate book publication (Matkowski, ed., 1997). This paper brings the results of a follow-up study accomplished after the termination of the project
