ABSTRACT
For the time being, social statistics is on the defensive. The fact that in social politics conditions are much the same is but little consolation. Single market and currency union demand a concentration on economic politics and economic statistics - both in the European Union and in its individual member states. And the currency union once introduced will require even more rigidity in economic research and economic politics.
