ABSTRACT

Office work can be improved by focusing on the end-to-end value streams in the organization. The purpose of the value stream focus is to uncover the wastes throughout and between the steps of the value stream. This end-to-end focus follows the business across the functional silos and departmental boundaries, with the ultimate goal of satisfying the needs of the primary end customer. In most organizations, there is no one person responsible for the overall value stream. The value streams are split across multiple leaders in the organization. One leader should be appointed to have overall responsibility for the value stream. The person who is closest to the customers of the value stream is the logical choice. The office Lean expert is a person with Lean knowledge and background who is named to lead the team and facilitate a workshop. The facilitators come from the team of internal Lean consultants.
