ABSTRACT

Free fall cone tests have been performed in a model container filled with Kaolin clay with varying strength. The strength of the clay was varied by mixing it with different water contents. The free fall cone is equipped with accelerometers to determine the acceleration during the fall. One and two times integration of the measured acceleration gives the velocity and the displacement respectively. Measured penetration resistance is compared with penetration resistance measured with a standard CPT and a T-bar. Results showed good agreement when corrected for the difference in penetration rate.
