ABSTRACT

Design guidelines have been recently developed to allow surface laid offshore HP/HT pipelines to buckle in a controlled manner. These guidelines need validation against physical measurements of well-defined full pipe-line system lateral buckling events. A centrifuge model testing system at C-CORE was adapted to provide such measurements. Lateral buckling of the equivalent of a 0.8 m diameter 270 m long pipeline partially embedded in soft clay due to axial displacement was demonstrated.
