ABSTRACT

The process of reframing for the digital age focuses on whether or not, and, if so, how much actors adjust their performances across media. The dynamic relationship between actors and audience requires intuitive adjustments; the apparent ease of a transition belies rigorous years of training. Most experts acknowledge that training can provide vocal, physical, and acting skills that equip actors to adjust from stage to film. Actors should cultivate interpersonal communication, timeliness, dependability, organization, mental and physical presence, cooperation, high artistic standards, and flexibility based on applied theory and mastery of skills developed in actor training programs. Actor training programs should protect undergraduates from opportunities that surpass their current skill levels, lest students be unable to meet or exceed job expectations. Theatre and film actor training programs need to integrate online auditioning skills in required courses throughout the undergraduate curriculum.
