ABSTRACT
Lavoslav Schick 1 was seriously ill. He had been suffering from severe diabetes for years, and in the spring of 1941, his disease grew worse. When the Ustashas came to power in that same springtime, in April 1941, he was 59 years old. One can hardly imagine what the arrival of the Wehrmacht in Zagreb, the defeat and destruction of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and particularly, the aggressive antisemitic politics and measures of the new Ustasha regime, which started immediately in April 1941, must have meant for Lavoslav Schick.
