ABSTRACT

The introduction provides background information on the origins of the study. It starts with an account from the author on why teaching and translanguaging in EFL in South Korea became important to the author. Then it explores some of the contextual factors that make South Korea and its English education situation so fascinating. Cultural, social, political, and historical information is given to ensure that the reader is aware of the various factors at play when considering the teaching and English-learning context on the South Korean peninsula. It also touches upon the role that reflexivity had in regards to the researcher and the research project. Although not an important element of the book itself, reflexivity nonetheless was an influential factor on the research that produced this book.
