ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents a concept of social assessment as relatively distinct from other kinds of assessment that can be made in relation to human individuals and groups. It draws on the experience of practitioners, and multi-disciplinary perspectives of social research. It discusses some of the issues that relate to psychology and social assessment. Social assessment can be seen in problem-solving terms. A social assessment should be defended as a separately based discipline, with its own methodology, but with overlaps and links to other disciplines and professions. The art of the assessor is an important element in social assessment because of the reflexive and meaningful nature of the content and process, which inevitably implicates the assessor in a relationship with obligations for action.
