ABSTRACT
What follows is the text of a speech I was planning to deliver to the Militant Forum at Pathfinder Books in Greensboro, N.C., during the Winter of 1996. The organizers of the Forum were hesitant for me to talk on the topic of language and socialism so, to assuage their fears, I submitted to them this manuscript. After reading this text, the organizers politely told me that this was “not appropriate” for an audience composed of the Socialist Workers’ Party.
