ABSTRACT

The year 2017 apparently marked a dramatic change on the stage of international economic relations. More than anyone else, Donald Trump made it clear in his Inaugural Speech the nature of that change: “From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it's going to be only America first, America first.” As a consequence (and as announced in Trump’s successful presidential campaign), the new administration has attempted to rebuild American competitiveness on a mix of financial and environmental deregulation and of active “protectionist” support to American vs. foreign interests.
