ABSTRACT

Since its inception, the First Person Shooter, or FPS, genre has been one of the dividing points between console and PC gamers. The mouse combined aiming and shooting into one peripheral and freed the other hand for basic motions. To rub even more salt in the wound, consoles were behind the PC in terms of providing a multiplayer architecture that would allow people to play against each other. The level design of Goldeneye was impressive thanks to the variety of environments and missions. While there were plenty of action levels, players also had to deal with stealth sections. If the player was detected, an alarm would sound, triggering infinite spawns of enemies. Some levels had basic puzzles for the player to solve in order to complete objectives. One of the best parts of the campaign was how Rare handled difficulties. The difficulty settings of Goldeneye not only raised the damage enemies did but added new objectives.
