ABSTRACT
Sun Shiqiang was born in 1932 and took up the position of tutor when the Fushun prison was set up in 1950. The Fushun prison — from 1950 to 1975 strictly known as the Fushun War Criminals' Administration Centre is a single-storied building, the administration section at the front being surmounted by an observation tower rising to 12m or so. Jin Yuan is Deputy Director of the Bureau of Citizen Affairs for the city of Fushun and is no longer a prison officer, but he was for many years on the staff of Fushun prison and rose to be its commandant for several of those years up to 1975. He organized his account in five sections: basic policies and general conditions in the prison camp; the first stage of re-education: admitting one's crimes; Education through tours; Education through labour; Education in revolution using humane principles.
